Eight teams contested the 2023 Closing Day Tournament, a two-end, three-wood, round-robin triples slugfest that produced some absolutely incredible bowls.
You’d think with that super-short format we’d end up with a mess of ordinary W/D/L results, but in fact there are clear and outright winners of this tournament every year. This season’s champions won 6 out of their 7 games and no one can possibly argue with that.

So congratulations once again to 2023 Closing Day Tournament winners Tom, Yuko and Ed, and thanks once again also to prize sponsors Ishu and the Ishiguros for the wine and nuts. This was a most excellent afternoon of bowls.
After presenting the Closing Day winners with their prizes, we celebrated the achievements of the season’s champions and runners-up. The champions’ names will be inscribed on the trophies and boards, and are already listed in our digital Hall of Fame: https://goodbackwood.com/hall-of-fame/
First up in this review however, special mention is due to the season’s unluckiest of runners-up.
